Wearable technology
We develop EEG-based wearable systems — from signal acquisition to on-device processing.
01 / Scope
What we work on.
01
Body-worn sensing
Sensor placement, skin contact and comfort for recordings made outside the lab.02
Embedded firmware
Acquisition, buffering and precise timing on resource-constrained microcontrollers.03
Low-power design
Hardware–software trade-offs for battery life: what to compute on the device and what to transmit.04
On-device processing
Filtering and lightweight inference close to the sensor, to cut latency and the amount of data that leaves the device.05
Connectivity and data
Reliable wireless transfer and time synchronisation between the device, a phone and the cloud.
02 / Approach
How we approach it.
Step 01
A usable signal in a wearable form
The aim is a signal worth analysing, recorded by a device people can actually wear for hours.
Step 02
Hardware and software together
Firmware, signal processing and models are designed as one system, not handed over between teams.
Step 03
Power is a design constraint
Every processing step is weighed against its energy cost from the first prototype on.
Step 04
Work in phases
Development moves through defined prototype phases. The current phase is shown below.
03 / Status
